Elizabeth Warren endorses Democrat Joe Biden for president

US Senator Elizabeth Warren (R) and former Vice President Joe Biden

US Senator Elizabeth Warren has endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden for president, delievering another backing from one of Biden's former rivals

"Empathy matters. And, in this moment of crisis, it's more important than ever that the next president restores Americans' faith in good, effective government," Warren said in a video message on Wednesday. "Joe Biden has spent nearly his entire life in public service. He knows that a government run with integrity, competence, and heart will save lives and save livelihoods. And we can't afford to let Donald Trump continue to endanger the lives and livelihoods of every American."

"That's why I'm proud to endorse Joe Biden as president of the United States," she added.

This is the third important endorsement Biden has received during the past week, as the Democratic party is trying to unify its members in the general election against Republican President Donald Trump.

Last week, Biden's main rival, Bernie Sanders, endorsed him after suspending his campaign. Former President Barack Obama also throw his weight behind Biden's campaign on Tuesday.

"The kind of leadership that's guided by knowledge and experience, honesty and humility, empathy and grace -- that kind of leadership doesn't just belong in our state capitols and mayors offices. It belongs in the White House," said the former president on Tuesday. "And that's why I'm so proud to endorse Joe Biden for President of the United States."

In recent weeks, Biden has focused more and more on persuading liberal backers of Sanders to join his campaign through adopting two of his main priorities, student debt and Medicare.

He also adopted Warren's plan on bankruptcy, a surprising measure given the fact that the two had clashed for more than a decade over legislation.

"One thing I appreciate about Joe Biden is he will always tell you where he stands," Warren noted during her message. "When you disagree - he'll listen. ... And he's shown throughout this campaign that when you come up with new facts or a good argument, he's not too afraid - or too proud - to be persuaded."
