Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has announced his resignation after President Vladimir Putin proposed a series of constitutional reforms.
Medvedev said the government resigned because the reform proposals would make significant changes to the country's balance of power.
Medvedev said his government’s resignation gives room to the president to carry out the changes he wants to make to the constitution.
Putin has ordered the government to fulfill its responsibilities until a new government is appointed.
He has offered Medvedev to oversee Defense and security affairs in a new Security Council role.
