Chinese man takes videos of 70 shrinking glaciers

A Chinese an has taken videos of 70 glaciers over the past seven years, and been invited to demonstrate his works at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in 2019.

Wang Xiangjun, a young man from the rural areas of southwest China's Sichuan Province, was invited to Madrid on December 6 to share his experience of shooting glaciers at the 25th UN Climate Change Conference. Wang was the first Chinese to speak at the conference.

"After I shot more than 70 glaciers in Tibet, I found that all glaciers are shrinking. What does this mean? It means global warming is indeed a very serious thing happening around us," said Wang.

In 2019, the total area of China's nature reserves reached 1.47 million square kilometers, and forest reserves increased by 2.1 billion cubic meters. Among them, glaciers, forests, and animals are all included in one of China's latest environment protection plan - the National Park Construction Project, which adopts the highest standard for global ecology governance and protection.

Wang said that it is China's active actions and commitments in environment protection that give him the strength and courage to speak at the UN conference.

"China's firm determination and solemn commitment to ecology protection have given everyone the dignity. Protecting the glaciers and protecting the homeland is no longer a slogan, but something that everyone can strive to do through practical actions," said Wang.
