An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale has hit parts of Iran's southwestern Bushehr province.
According to the seismological center of Tehran University’s Institute of Geophysics, the tremor rattled an area close to Bushehr's Ahram, Kalameh and Khormoj cities.
The tremor was documented to have struck at a depth of 10 kilometers. No possible casualties resulting from the quake have so far been reported.
"Based on our assessment, fortunately there have been no casualties or damage. There are reports of cracks in some walls of homes, but no flattened houses," Jahangir Dehqani, the head of the provincial emergency department, was quoted as saying.
Iran experiences frequent seismic activity as it sits where two major tectonic plates meet.
In November 2017, Iran's western Kermanshah Province was hit by a powerful 7.3-magnitude earthquake, which killed hundreds of people.
A year later, over 550 people were injured in a strong 6.3-magnitude earthquake that once again targeted the Kermanshah province.
Friday's quake also comes a day after the 16th anniversary of the disastrous Bam city earthquake which decimated the ancient Iranian city in 2003.
More than 26,000 people were killed and another 30,000 were injured as a result of the tragic incident.
