Empire brazenly targets Iranian people with more sanctions: Writer

The United States is brazenly attempting to overthrow the government of Iran by targeting its people with more economic sanctions, according to American writer and political commentator Daniel Patrick Welch.

Welch made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Friday after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo threatened to impose more sanctions on Iran over the country’s handling of the recent riots, even though the unrest is believed to be the result of Washington’s unilateral sanctions on Iran.

Pompeo on Thursday urged Iranians to send photos and other information documenting what he called “repression,” while vowing to sanction "abuses" by the Iranian government.

"I have asked the Iranian protesters to send us their videos, photos and information documenting the regime's crackdown on protesters," Pompeo tweeted, vowing that the US will “expose and sanction the abuses."

Welch said, “Pompous Pompeo is the perfectly named source for the US government hypocrisy. And it’s interesting that this time of the year Thanksgiving is the perfect backdrop, this sham holiday that the US celebrates -- its own genocide of the natives and the founding mythology of the country is just rife with lies and historical subterfuge that the Americans teach themselves and their children."

“There is no interference in other people’s countries and lives and political processes that is not twisted to serve the interest of Empire,” he added.

Empire's sociopath doublethink

“You know the hypocrisy of imposing more sanctions because the economic chaos caused by the last sanctions initiated protests – it’s just sociopath doublethink, it’s really quite impressive, the psychology of it, how dare they! It’s so brazen,” he noted.

“You know and they go along; the US has the absolute worst and most corrupt elections in the known world. And you know they go and moan about elections in other countries, that they are overthrowing left and right. They are trying to overthrow the government in Venezuela. They have successfully overthrown the government in Bolivia, they are trying in Syria, they are trying in Iran, they are trying everywhere they can and then blaming their own political farce on the Russians. You know everything is either China or Russia’s fault because the US cannot just bring itself to face its own problems,” the analyst said.

“And the sad part about the Iran sanctions and all these others interventions is that it is strictly bipartisan. There is not a single voice – I mean clear, crystal, radical voice – you know Tulsi Gabbard and Bernie Sanders have paid some lip service to putting the brakes on the imperial juggernaut but even that is pretty mealy-mouthed, and other than that you have the US Senate unanimously interfering in Hong Kong which is another US-sponsored project,” he observed.

“It’s so repulsive and so obvious that -- it’s remarkable that it’s lasting that long, but of course it only lasted this long because it is backed by brute force. You know this is all death – the ideological march of white supremacy and the military march of leaving a trail of dead brown children and colonized people all over the world. That’s how it feeds itself,” Welch said.

“The really amazing part is that there isn’t any light at the end of this tunnel in the political sector. It is so awash in blood and cash that there is no voice that is going to counter it. No one is saying we have to cut the war budget by 50%, which would bring it down still way ahead of everyone else. No one is speaking for any human related interest. And if you do you are a traitor, you’re a Russia bot, you’re naive. But people are starving for it. That’s why these candidates won’t die, even though they are given no play by mainstream media. Because people want to be able to afford health care, education, rent—you know, just regular life," he stated.

“But on the foreign stage it’s pretty dismal. If you look at it historically, this myth, this City-on-a-Hill crap of the founding mythology of the Pilgrims that we celebrate this week or next week is so permanent. If the United States can’t face the truth about this 400 year old history, how are they going to face the truth about their current imperial ambitions and what their government is doing. It is impossible to imagine, because they quite literally can’t think straight. Sorry to end on such a down not but….Happy Thanksgiving!” Welch concluded.
