Ecuadorian President Moreno allowing US meddling in return for financial aid, says commentator

Political commentator Lajos Szaszdi says the Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno is allowing the US to interfere in the country’s policies in return for Washington’s financial aid.

Ecuador has been going through violent protests for the past six days.

Moreno has ordered a curfew in parts of the capital, Quito, amid violent protests over fuel subsidy cuts. The curfew bans movement in areas close to government buildings and strategic installations between 8 PM and 5 AM.

The move came after demonstrators broke into the country’s congress building.

The South American country plunged into chaos after Moreno decided to end decades-old fuel subsidies in a fiscal reform package.

So far, the protests have left one person dead and almost 80 others injured. Hundreds of protesters have also been arrested.
