Cincinnati Masters: No. 70 Rublev stuns Federer

Seven-time Champion, and 3rd seed Roger Federer has been knocked out of the Cincinnati Masters by qualifier Andrey Rublev in the 3rd round.

World No.70 Rublev swept past the Swiss Maestro 6-3, 6-4, to Record the biggest victory of his young career. The Russian was more focused throughout the match, finishing with only 6 unforced errors, compared to 19 for Federer.

The 21-year-old took less than An Hour to earn his 2nd top-five win in a month. He had earlier beaten Dominic Thiem in Hamburg on his way to the Final.

Rublev will now face 9th seed fellow Russian, Daniil Medvedev, who cruised past Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany 6-2, 6-1, for a place in the Semi-finals.

Meanwhile, 38-year-old Federer will head into the US Open later this month with just 2 matches on hard court under his belt.

Cincinnati, was the 20-time Grand Slam winner's 2nd tournament since losing the Wimbledon final in July to Novak Djokovic.
