Gazans have been suffering from the power blackouts ever since 2006 due to the Israeli army air bombing the electricity generating unit for the first time in the same year; something that exacerbates as a result of the political division between both Hamas and Fatah in 2007. It still resonates that the power blackout issue poses the largest obstacle in Gazans day to day life.

Gaza’s current estimated population of almost two million people living in an area sized 365 square kilometres, suffer from a suffocating siege for over than a decade that in turn leads to the deteriorating of the quality of life tremendously, which basically relies on the availability of electricity.

As a result, the enclave’s side of Mediterranean has witnessed an overcrowding of Gazans who have taken to the coast as a shelter from the high temperature in face of the power cuts that last for more than 16 daily hours.

It's undeniable that this outage is a serious problem that affects all aspects of life for Gazans. Deema, a student from Gaza, expresses that the power cut has created many difficulties through her daily life and led her to lose many opportunities. What bothers Deema the most is that she has to leave home everyday in attempts to charge her laptop in order to accomplish her tasks, which costs her a lot of both, time and money.

The shortage of electricity is a long-term crisis that is in a real need to be resolved as soon as possible. The blackout in Gaza Strip has not only ruined the economic situation for Gazans and made the living conditions unbearable at all levels, but also led Gazans to crowd at the side of the Mediterranean that became an escape for the youth and the unemployed from the blackout and the excessive heat of summer under the current circumstances.
