PA suspends agreements with Israel

The Palestinian President was once recognized by the West as a willing partner in negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians. Mahmoud Abbas has long opposed armed struggle against Israel, something Palestinian resistance movement Hamas and other resistance groups strongly believe in. Abbas has long said he is committed to pursuing the establishment of an independent Palestinian state through dialog. The Palestinian Authority’s stances were long a bone of contention with Hamas. But realities of the past decades, like a lack of progress in the talks with the Israelis and endless Israeli violations have pushed the Palestinian Authority closer to Hamas.
