UK prime minister Boris Johnson has already been accused of rampant hypocrisy on his first full day as Prime Minister.

Following an exchange with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn in parliament, Johnson claimed Corbyn was untrustworthy for appearing on Iran’s Press TV.

But Johnson’s own father did also appeared on Press TV following his son’s leadership victory, expressing his love and admiration for the Iran.

The prime minister himself had no issues with appearing on Saudi funded channel Al Arabia while foreign secretary, criticising Iran while also professing the importance of Britain’s relationship with Riyadh.

Al Arabia was itself removed from the Sky broadcasting Platform in the UK in 2018, accused of broadcasting confessions of Bahraini opposition figures obtained under torture,

The latest controversy isn’t the first time that Boris Johnson has found himself embroiled in a scandal with Iran. While Foreign Secretary, Johnson famously claimed that Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, convicted of spying by Iran, was ‘training journalists’ in the country - which many took to be an inadvertent confirmation by Johnson of guilt on the part of Ratcliffe.

“My remarks on the subject before the Foreign Affairs Select Committee could and should have been clearer. And I acknowledge that the words I used were open to be misinterpreted and I apologize to Mrs. Zaghari Ratcliffe and her family if I inadvertently caused them any further anguish," Johnson said.

While many will be hoping for better relations between the UK and Iran with Boris Johnson in charge, some may feel that Johnson should show more consistency in his treatment of those who choose to appear on Press TV - like Jeremy Corbyn and his own father.
