The United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, made his 2019 Ramadan solidarity visit to Christchurch on Tuesday following the March 15 terrorist shooting attacks on two mosques.

Guterres laid floral tributes at both the Al Noor and Linwood mosques where 51 people lost their lives when a gunman opened fire during Friday prayers, and offered his condolences to the community.

Brenton Tarrant, 28, a suspected white supremacist from Australia, has been charged with 50 counts of murder for New Zealand's worst peacetime mass shooting.

Apart from his Ramadan visit, Guterres is visiting the Pacific region to speak to communities and draw attention to their concerns and fight against climate change.
