Call for free elections in Bahrain

Bahrain is to hold parliamentary elections on November 24. The validity of the vote, however, has been thrown into question following a ban on opposition parties and jailed activists.

The ruling monarchy in Bahrain has launched a heavy-handed crackdown on dissent since 2011 when pro-democracy protests began.

Human Rights Watch says Bahrain’s repressive political environment is not conducive to free elections.
