US using food, medicine as leverage to pressure Iran: Pundit

The United States’ imposition of new round of sanctions on Iran is a kind of leverage to push Iranians to succumb to American demands, says a commentator.

The United States has targeted 700 individuals, banks, aircraft, ships and companies tied to Iran’s energy and financial industries. The sanctions came six months after Washington scrapped the 2015 Iran nuclear deal despite international objections.

The first round was reimposed in August and US National Security Adviser John Bolton said on Tuesday that Washington would “squeeze” the Iranians “very hard.”

Jason Unruhe, political commentator, told Press TV on Friday that the US is trying to make Iranians “bend” to the American officials’ will.

“Essentially what the United States is trying to do is to withhold food and medicine from people and this particularly affects those who are vulnerable," he said.

“This is nothing less than an act of war and a crime against humanity that the United States is carrying out right now,” he added.

The analyst said “the goal of ending the Islamic Revolution that ended imperialist control over the country seems to be the direct and an immediate goal of the United States in this case.”
