Oman using Israeli card to stand up to Saudi interference: Pundit

Oman uses relations with Israel as a card to urge Saudi Arabia to stop meddling in the Sultanate’s internal affairs, says a commentator.

After a recent controversial visit by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Oman, Israeli Transport and Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz arrived in Muscat on Sunday. Katz will take part in the International Road Transport Union on Wednesday.

Hadi Kobaysi, political analyst, told Press TV on Wednesday that Oman wants Israel to give the Omani authorities “power against the Saudi [royal] family,” because “the family of Saud now wants to take control of the Oman sultanate” through interfering in Oman’s internal affairs by putting a successor for Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said.

The Saudi family interferes in the internal politics of Oman and wants a successor who can make Oman a sub-sheikhdom and subordinated to the family of Al Saud, Kobaysi said.

So, Oman wants to benefit from normalization of ties with Israeli officials against the Saudi pressure, the analyst noted.
