Chicago Labour Day anti-violence protest

US Police arrested 12 activists purportedly attempting to block Chicago's Kennedy expressway near O'Hare International Airport on Monday, as part of an anti-violence protest held on Labor Day.

Protesters sought to draw attention to the city's gang violence epidemic. They called on Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's to step down, and demanded more investment be funnelled into neighbourhoods where shooting occurs.

Police proceeded to arrest 12 people and demanded that the protesters clear from the expressway.

The protesters were planning to march down the Kennedy expressway and to reach the O'Hare International Airport.
