Trump blasts union leader Trumka on Labor Day

US President Donald Trump has slammed a renowned labor boss on Labor Day for criticizing his policies.

In a TV interview on Sunday, AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka, who represents 12.5 million US workers, pointed out that since Trump came to power, wages have been down, and gas prices have gone up, making workers poorer.

AFL-CIO, or the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, is the largest federation of unions in the United States.

Trump retaliated by beginning his Labor Day holiday on Monday with an attack on the top union leader for the interview with Fox News Sunday .

Trumka “represented his union poorly on television this weekend,” Trump wrote in his tweet, adding, “It is easy to see why unions are doing so poorly. A Dem!”

Trump’s remarks aimed to hit back at Trumka after the union boss revealed that Trump’s policies had in reality damaged the working people.

In addition, Trump “hasn’t come up with an infrastructure program that could put a lot of us back to work,” Trumka added in the interview.

Trump "overturned some health and safety regulations that will hurt us on the job,” Trumka argued.

The president also helped scuttle a Labor Department rule that would have extended overtime benefits to close to 5 million workers, Trumka said.

“So overall, workers aren’t doing as well” as Trump claims, Trumka told the Fox News Sunday host.

Trumka then went on to advise union workers and other US citizens to vote for “Democrats” in the upcoming congressional elections scheduled for November.

Analysts say that if the Democratic Party wins the majority in Congress in the midterm congressional elections, there is a good chance that Trump may be forced into an early exit from presidency.

Over the past weeks, political heat has been mounting against Trump and a growing number of congressmen, from both sides of the aisle, are now contemplating his impeachment.

Many politicians on the Hill strongly believe that the current political trend is an indication that the "countdown" for impeachment has begun.
