Iran drubs Macau at Asian Women's U19 Volleyball C’ship, advances to next round

The Iran women’s national under-19 volleyball team

The Iran women’s national under-19 volleyball team has gained a sweeping victory in its last group stage encounter of the 2018 Asian Women's U19 Volleyball Championship, and moved into the next level of the continental event.

The Iranian outfit took on Macau in a Pool C match staged at the Bắc Ninh Gymnasium in the northern Vietnamese city of Bắc Ninh on Tuesday, and beat the Macanese side 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, and 25-12) in three straight sets.

The Iranian girls started the game in a dominant fashion, and built up momentum to amass points and surge ahead. They finally established a 14-point margin and finished the first set 25-11.

Macau pushed to reduce the deficit in the second set, but the East Asians did not manage to get any closer but 25-18.

The young Iranian sportswomen dashed their rivals’ hopes in the final set, when they took it by 25 points to 12, and advanced to the Round of 15. Japan has already booked a place in the quarter-finals.

The Iran women’s national under-19 volleyball team is scheduled to play India in its next match on Thursday.

The 2018 Asian Women's U19 Volleyball Championship opened on June 10, and will finish on June 17, 2018.

Iran was in Pool C along with Australia, Hong Kong and Macau.

Pool A consisted of China, Japan, Thailand and Vietnam. Chinese Taipei, India, Kazakhstan and South Korea formed Pool B.

Malaysia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka were pitted against each other in Pool D.
