A US pilot and flight instructor have been accused of kidnapping a Chinese student and trying to deport him “back to China,” according to California police.

Jonathan McConkey and ground instructor Kelsi Hoser kidnapped Tianshu Shi but police stopped them before they could put him on a plane at the municipal airport.

McConkey “battered” him and threatened him as he refused to go with them early on Friday.

Shi managed to call his brother thousands of miles away in Shanghai for help and he could notify the police.

The two had earlier showed up at Shi’s apartment in Redding, California, which he shares with some other students from the IASCO flight training school.

Shi has been living in the country with a student visa for seven months to train at the flight school.

The abductors allegedly intended to fly him to the Bay Area and then put him on another overseas flight to China.
