The Syrian army released footage on Sunday which showed soldiers moving into areas of Damascus' Qadam neighborhood as President Bashar al-Assad seeks to defeat rebel resistance in several small pockets near the capital.

The video, published online by the government's military media unit, was released following intense fighting between the Syrian army and Islamic State militants on Saturday.

In the video, soldiers could be seen walking through streets filled with badly damaged buildings, firing weapons and handling items - including what appeared to be discarded weaponry - they say were left behind by the terrorists.
