Students at King Juan Carlos University protested in Madrid's Sol Square on Thursday, calling for the resignation of the President of Madrid's regional government Cristina Cifuentes and the university rector Javier Ramos.

The Popular Party (PP) leader has been accused of being fraudulently awarded an MBA by the public university without taking courses or writing a dissertation.

Students held banners in front of the city hall in Madrid, chanting "Mafia, get out of the university" and "Resign, Cifuentes! Leave your hiding place!"

The party's deputy communications chief Pablo Casado was also accused of obtaining master's degrees from the King Juan Carlos without attending any classes.
