Economy of tourism in Iran

Besides its archeological wealth and historic sites, foreign tourists who visit Iran talk all the time about the hospitality of its people, its four seasons, traditional clothes and cuisines. They also say that Iran is completely different from the preconception formed in their minds by the foreign media outlets.

Although Iran is located geographically in a region which is known for insecurity and instability, Iran is a safe tourist destination.Iran is among the top 10 tourist destinations in the world. Archaeologists say Iran has between 800.000 and 1 million historic architectural sites and spaces. 19 structures have been listed by UNESCO as world heritage sites.

Of ecosystem sites, 202 have been registered. Moving diagonally southeastwards, to miss the Caspian sea in the north and the rainbow water-color Alborz mountains bordering it, we pass through capital city Tehran, with its Qajar-era Golestan Palace and Bazaar downtown, to its 4 skiing resorts to the north of the city ; the biggest being Dizin resort.

Tehran hosts the conic mount Damavand. That's Asia's highest volcano with an elevation of over 5600 metres. Another important palace compound in the opposite direction to Goleastan palace is Saadabad. A feature of the place is the Omidvar museum, named after two Marco Polo-like brothers.

Almost brushing past the Persian Gulf and strategic Strait of Hormuz but missing, is the Persian and Baluch Province of Sistan and Baluchestan stretching out to border Oman Sea waters. That province hosts the 5000-year-old burnt city, Shahr-e-Sukhteh, where the world's apparently first false eye was found.
