A massive sandstorm has been sweeping through parts of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region since the weekend, with bad air quality severely reducing visibility.

A massive sandstorm has been sweeping through parts of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region since the weekend, with bad air quality severely reducing visibility.

The PM10 reading reached 8,000 milligram per cubic meter in parts of Hotan Prefecture in the southern part of the region on Tuesday, leading local meteorological authorities to issue an orange alert for sandstorm, the second severest on a four-tier warning system.
