The Iran men’s national handball team has slumped to a narrow defeat against South Korea at the main round of the 18th edition of Asian Men's Handball Championship, and failed to win the ticket for the 2019 World Men's Handball Championship.

On Tuesday, the Iranian side suffered a 24-28 loss at the hands of the South Korean team at the end of a Group 1 match staged at Suwon Gymnasium in Suwon, located about 30 kilometers (19 miles) south of the South Korean capital city of Seoul.

The Iran men’s national handball team will play Oman on Wednesday.

This comes as Persians have no chance to advance to the tournament’s semi-final round.

The 2018 Asian Men's Handball Championship kicked off on January 18, and will run through January 28.

It acts as the Asian qualifying tournament for the 2019 World Men's Handball Championship. For the first time, Australia, New Zealand and Bangladesh have participated in the event.
