Iranian squad stands atop Central Asia Karate Championship

Iranian karate practitioners from the northwestern province of Qazvin have shown great punching, knee strikes as well as open-hand techniques at the Central Asia Karate Championship in Uzbekistan, and claimed the top position at the end of the regional tournament.

Bahman Asgari took part in the men’s kumite minus 84-kilogram competitions in the Uzbek capital city of Tashkent, and triumphed over his opponents to take the gold, the Islamic Republic of Iran Karate Federation website reported.

In the men’s over 84-kilogram kumite division, Saleh Abazari overcame him rivals and brought home another gold medal.

Moreover, Meysam Reshvand claimed a silver medal in the men’s kumite over 84-kilogram division.

Mohammad Hossein Qasemi and Rauf Dastafkan could earn two bronze medals in the men’s kumite minus 60-kilogram and minus 75-kilogram weight classes.

The Central Asia Karate Championship kicked off on December 24, and wrapped up the following day.

Karatekas from Afghanistan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan participated in the event.
