Thirty newborns die in 48 hours at India hospital
Thirty newborns died within 48 hours at a state-run hospital in India's northern Uttar Pradesh state, medical college confirmed on Sunday.
Professor Dr. DK Shrivastava from Baba Raghav Das Medical College said 15 children died in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and 15 others at the Paediatrics Intensive Care Unit of the hospital in Gorakhpur.
Six deaths were due to encephalitis and other newborns died due to various other reasons, Shrivastava added.
The incident came to light two months after at least 105 people, most of them newborns and children, died at the same hospital, as it ran out of medical supplies because of unpaid bills, triggering public outrage.
