Spanish national team's training session has been abandoned after just 23 minutes, as unhappy fans booed and abused Gerard Pique one day after he took part in Catalonia's independence referendum.

Hundreds of spectators hurled abusive chants at the Barcelona center back, forcing the squad to cut short their training session in Madrid on Monday. Pique, who has won a World Cup and two European championships with Spain left the training ground with the rest of team.

The 30-year-old had on Sunday offered to resign from the Spanish national team if his political beliefs were causing problem for anyone in the squad.
