Trump’s “limited options” toward North Korea
North Korea remains defiant in the face of fresh war games jointly conducted by the United States and South Korea. The North has launched a missile over Japan saying it sends a strong message to its enemies. The projectile, launched early Tuesday, flew over the Japanese island of Hokkaido before falling into the sea. It was an intermediate range missile dubbed Hwasong-12. US president Donald Trump was quick to respond. He said the North has shown contempt for its neighbors and that in dealing with the situation; all options are on the table. But many observers believe America’s options are very limited when it comes to nuclear-armed North Korea.

It is already becoming clear that the tide of war in Syria is turning against the terrorists. No immediate end is still within reach to a conflict that has claimed the lives of several hundred thousand people. But the world is nonetheless looking with admiration at some key players that have been influential in the emerging defeat of the terrorists. Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement is one of those players. The resistance movement that pushed back Israel’s powerful military out of southern Lebanon in early 2000s is now seen as a successful force
against the terrorists in the region. It was in fact the success of Hezbollah that appears to have triggered the current tectonic shifts in the dynamics of the war in Syria.
