US beating drums of World War III: Activist

The United States has launched a missile attack on Syrian soil by resorting to a false-flag attack, says a Syrian activist.

“The US hasn’t even waited for their Congress to make a decision. They have acted unilaterally against the United Nations, against the UN Security Council,” Mimi al-Laham, a Syrian activist from Sydney, told Press TV on Friday.

"And when you do that basically you’re inviting a global war," she added.

On President Donald Trump's order, some 60 Tomahawk missiles were fired from US warships deployed to the Mediterranean at the Shayrat airfield from where a chemical weapons attack was allegedly launched this week.

Laham said there are some elements in the US governmental bodies who want war in the Middle East and are not happy with the Trump administration’s policy on Syria.

"So, they resort to false-flag attacks to go ahead with their plots for the Arab nation," she said.

“There is a deep state in the US government and they were not happy with Trump’s ... statements that the US should not go to war with Syria, that [Syrian President  Bashar] Assad should stay in power and that his people must decide,” she added.

The objectives of the United States are “to balkanize Syria” and “to protect Israel,” Laham said.

Pointing to a potential response from Russia, Iran and the rest of the world to US adventurism in Syria, she argued, “The potential for this is World War III.”

“Russia has two choices, either step up to this brinkmanship and show that they too are ready to start World War III and not cave in or cave in and lose everything.”

The activist also referred to previous toxic attacks in Syria, saying that the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) shipped all chemical weapons possessed by the Syrian government out of the Arab country in 2014.

“The Syrian government does not have chemical weapons anymore; so, how is it possible that they use them,” she noted.

“The fact is the insurgents (terrorists) do have chemical weapons. They took over a chlorine factory in 2012 and [investigative journalist] Seymour Hersh reported that [former US Secretary of State Hillary] Clinton herself helped them get sarin through to Syria from Turkey,” Laham added.
