Press TV has conducted an interview with Scott Rickard, a former American intelligence linguist from Tampa, and Daniel Serwer, a professor at the Johns Hopkins University from Washington, to discuss the current situation in Syria after the liberation of the Damascus suburb of Darayya.

Syria alongside Iran, Russia and the Lebanese Hezbollah resistance has been successful in neutralizing plots hatched by the United States and its regional allies, to destroy Syria, Rickard told Press TV’s Debate program on Friday night.

“The Syrian Army alongside the Russians, the Iranians and Hezbollah have been very calculated and have fought back very valiantly and have pushed back this foreign intervention into their country,” he stated.

The US, NATO and their regional allies have not only been decimating the Syrian infrastructure by arming, funding and training the mercenaries but they have been directly involved in the illegal and criminal act of war within Syria, the intelligent linguist said.

Syrian army units have stepped up their clean-up operations against Takfiri militants both inside and around Darayya over the past few days, pounding terrorist positions and inflicting heavy losses on militant ranks.

Darayya has been under siege since November 2012. It has become one of the most heavily-bombed militant-held areas during Syria's conflict, which is now in its sixth year.

The insurgency in the city of Darayya is an example of what the United States and its regional allies such as Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the Israeli regime have done to wreak havoc in the Arab country, Rickard noted, adding “These allies have armed the folks in Darayya for quite some time. They’ve even been able to provide TOW anti-tank missiles during the siege.”

As a result of the violence instigated by the foreign-backed militants, Darayya, which was one of the oldest historical cities in the region turned into rubble, Rickard maintained.

Also in the Debate program, Serwer put the blame on the Syrian government for the insurgency in the Arab country, describing the liberation of Darayya as “the defeat of an organic rebellion” of the Syrian people.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura estimates that over 400,000 people have been killed in the conflict.
