Turkish PM accuses PKK militants of conducting 3 deadly attacks

  • Turkey's Prime Minister Binali Yildirim has accused the Kurdistan Workers' Party militants of conducting three deadly attacks in the country's southeast. Yildirim says the PKK militants carry out such operations whenever possible. At least 12 people have been killed in three bombings against Turkish security forces since Wednesday.
  • Turkey has officially asked Greece to extradite eight Turkish military personnel who fled the country after last month's failed coup. The Greek Justice Ministry is considering the request. The eight men arrived in Greece onboard a helicopter days after Turkey's mid-July coup. They requested asylum upon landing.
  • Israeli troops have raided the Palestinian town of Jab’a in the occupied West Bank. They have clashed with residents using tear gas and arrested nearly a dozen people. The soldiers have reportedly burst into Palestinian homes and caused damage to them. 
  • South Sudan’s rebel leader has fled the country amid ongoing unrest. A spokesman for Riek Machar says he’s in a safe country in the East African region. Machar was removed as vice president last month, a year after he was appointed under a peace deal with President Salva Kiir. 
  • The UN secretary general has called on all warring sides in Yemen to cease hostilities, following an escalation of deadly Saudi airstrikes. Ban Ki-moon, however, has stopped short of criticizing the Arab kingdom for its aerial campaign against Yemen.
  • Forces loyal to Libya's UN-backed unity government say Daesh militants have detonated two car bombs in the city of Sirte, killing at least 10 troops. A spokesman for the loyal forces said the death toll is expected to rise because as many as 20 wounded soldiers are in critical condition. 
  • Thailand has detained over a dozen people following last week’s bomb and arson attacks in its southern resort towns. The ruling junta says the suspects are being held at military barracks in the capital Bangkok. Four people died and dozens more got injured in the attacks. 
  • Heavy rains in southern China have forced the evacuation of thousands of people. Rescuers have been searching for trapped villagers in floodwater. More than 12000 people were relocated across the Hainan province. Shipping service across the Qiong-zhou Strait in Hainan was suspended.
