Al-Nusra to Jabhat Fateh al-Sham: Who rebrands terrorists?

The file photo shows fighters from Jabhat Fateh al-Sham terrorist group, marching toward the northern village of al-Ais in Aleppo province.

Changing the name of a terrorist or terrorist group is the simplest way of whitewashing them. So far, many offshoots of this militant group have benefited by being regarded as mere opposition.

These criminal opposition groups are supported by the US and other western countries. Yet the records of these groups show only crimes against humanity, terror, indiscriminate killing and complete savagery. A friendly fighter or rebel is essentially a terrorist that does the work of the West and therefore relies on financial, political, logistical and military support from the West. All these terror groups derive their ideology from the official state religion of Saudi Arabia, namely Wahhabism.

The international community must pay attention to the root causes of terrorism and its repercussions, and to pressure the founders and supporters of terrorist groups into expunging the scourge of extremism. Renaming the al-Nusra Front Takfiri group, which is fighting to overthrow Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, to Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (The Conquest of Syria Front) will not change its terrorist nature.
