City dwellers may be well aware that bright street lights make it difficult to see the stars in the sky and disrupt sleep patterns. But that’s not all. Now scientists are warning of yet another side-effect of light pollution.

Researchers at the University of Exeter in Britain say street lamps cause trees to bud a week earlier in well-lit areas than in dark spots.

The early budding can cause problems for insects which feed on the leaves, and the birds which then feed on them in turn.

Scientists say wildlife can suffer a lot from this kind of pollution.
