Israel won't heed intl. law as long as it is under US aegis, analyst says

Press TV has conducted an interview with Hafsa Kara-Mustapha, a journalist and political analyst from London, and Lee Kaplan, an investigative journalist from San Francisco, to discuss a report by a UN human rights commission on Israel's systematic refusal to honor humanitarian conventions in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Hafsa Kara-Mustapha believes the recent report by the Committee Against Torture, which works under the office of the UN human rights chief, contains no new information regarding the brutality of Israeli soldiers in the face of Palestinian people and it is just restating what everyone knows about this entity since its creation which was originally based on coercion and terrorism.

There is no question on the validity of the report, Kara-Mustapha said, the only problem at this stage is to ensure that someone will act based on these findings.

"Israel won’t respect the international law as long as it has the support of various major world powers. As you know, the US supports it unconditionally. It vetoes any resolution that goes against Israel," the commentator said.

However, Lee Kaplan totally rejected the credibility of the UN report, saying that the Committee Against Torture has not conducted an independent investigation for writing this report. “For writing this report, the UN [has] relied on NGOs who are funded primarily by the EU and the EU gets its money from the Arab sources. So, the report is biased.”
