Press TV has conducted an interview with investigative journalist Tony Gosling, and Richard Millett, a journalist and political commentator, to discuss the significance of the “regime of calm” declared in the Syrian city of Aleppo.

Gosling says the foreign-backed conflict in Syria is a conflict that is “a possible prelude to “World War III,” which, he says, is about resources.

The world powers want oil and gas pipelines through Syria, he explains, adding that US allies in the region, including Qatar and Saudi Arabia, are attempting to link up oil and gas pipelines to Turkey through Syria.

He believes the conflict in Syria has nothing to do with President Assad, because the war is a rivalry between the West and the East over pipelines and resources. He does say, however, that Western powers, which have examined the “regime change” policy in Iraq and Libya before, are also pursuing the same goal in Syria.

Gosling says the supporters of the “so-called democratic rebels,” who are in fact terrorists, have to stop backing them, adding that the terrorist groups should be removed from Syria in order for peace and stability to be restored to the country.

Millett, for his part, accuses the Syrian armed forces of violating the ceasefire in Aleppo, saying that there has been no cessation of hostilities in the city.
