At first, the Saudi-backed opposition group was not going to attend. But then, the High Negotiations Committee, a Saudi-backed umbrella group of opposition parties, felt compelled to fly to Geneva, less to talk about how to end the war than to make its case.

France pressures Israel

France to recognize Palestine if peace talks fail. Fabius warned that continued Israeli settlement expansion was threatening to “unravel” the two-state solution and said they have a responsibility as a member of the UN Security Council to prevent that from happening.

Rights group sues for details of US counter terrorism effort

Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) program: A federal program that enlists Americans in helping to identify and discourage violent extremism in their communities. But it had a flawed approach: it “all but ensures” it will stigmatize Muslims and reinforce Islamophobic stereotypes, suppress dissent, and sow discord in communities.
