US presidential candidates lack good views, says former Senator

All US presidential candidates lack good views and that is why they will fail to make great presidents, says former US Senator Mike Gravel.

None of the leading US presidential candidates will make great presidents because they all lack appropriate views to run the nation, says a former US Democratic senator.

“I don’t think any of them would make a great president because [of] their views,” former Democratic senator Mike Gravel told Press TV on Thursday. “Many of them are bigoted racists; many of them only talk in terms of the economic benefits to the wealthy.”

He made the comments following a new national poll by the Pew Research Center that shows American voters are skeptical that any of the US presidential candidates would make a good president.

The former senator pointed to Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton as an example, saying her campaign has received millions of dollars in contributions from “Wall Street [and] the military-industrial complex.”

Gravel noted that regardless of what she says, the former first lady’s record shows her true colors.

“She voted for the war in Iraq, she was part of the approval of CIA to destabilize Syria, she also was for the invasion of Libya and also the coup that took place in Honduras,” he explained.

However, Gravel said that the other Democratic contender Bernie Sanders is unique, in that he does not engage in “the political game of negative attacks” against his rivals.

The Pew poll found that 28 percent of the participants think Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton would be “terrible” in the White House.

Roughly half, or 52 percent, think Republican front-runner Donald Trump would make a poor or terrible president, with 38 percent saying he would be terrible. Just 12 percent think Trump would be an average president.

Sanders, who has proven to be a tough challenge for Clinton in the race for the Democratic Party’s nomination, came in at third, with 21 percent of the participants saying he will be a good president and only 17 percent thinking otherwise.
