Israeli forces raid, shut down Palestinian radio station

1. Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh has emphasized the necessity for more cooperation among members of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum. Zanganeh was speaking at an extraordinary meeting of GECF in Tehran. The meeting has brought together delegations from 17 countries including Libya, Qatar, Russia and the UAE.

2. A manhunt is underway in Mali for three people suspected of involvement in Friday’s deadly attack on a hotel in the capital Bamako. The attack that killed 27 people sparked condemnations from world leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Barack Obama.

3. The terrorists of ISIL also known as Daesh have kidnapped at least 20 Shia Muslims in Afghanistan. The militants reportedly kidnapped the Shias traveling on a bus on Kabul-Kandahar highway. Afghan officials have launched a massive operation to locate and release the hostages.

4. An American think tank estimates that Israel could be in possession of 115 nuclear warheads. The Institute for Science and International Security says Israel has produced around 660 kilos of plutonium over the past five decades. It says the stockpile is well enough to make approximately 115 nuclear weapons.

5. Israeli forces raid a Palestinian radio station in the city of al-Khalil, also known as Hebron. They destroyed some parts of the office and seized the equipment. They also left a notice announcing the station's closure for six months. Israeli forces previously attacked many Palestinian radio stations in the occupied land.

6. In Turkey, a lawmaker from the pro-Kurdish People's Democratic Party or HDP has been sentenced to 6.5 years in jail over alleged links with what an alleged terrorist organization. Lezgin Botan was convicted of being a member of the Kurdish Communities Union, which is linked to the Kurdistan Workers' Party.

7. The EU Agency for Fundamental Rights says foreign workers run a serious risk of falling victim to criminal forms of exploitation. It criticized the lack of prosecution and quote impunity of people involved in human trafficking. With a wave of refugees heading for Europe, the crisis is expected to get worse.

8. Human rights groups slam the recent remarks of US presidential hopefuls Donald Trump and Ben Carson promoting Islamophobia across America. Following the Paris terror attack earlier in the week, Trump said he would consider drastic measures for monitoring the Muslim community. Carson also called Syrian refugees rabid dogs.
