Lebanese security sources say the five Czech citizens who recently went missing in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley have been abducted.

Along with their Lebanese driver, the five men, whose identities have not been publicly released, went missing on Friday night after their car was discovered in the Kefraya region in the western part of the Bekaa.

“The five Czechs have indeed been kidnapped,” a security source, whose name was not released, said on Monday, adding that “professional cameras and video equipment were found in their car.”

“The security services are working on multiple leads but nothing is clear yet,” said another source.

There is speculation that the abduction may be connected to the detention of several Lebanese individuals in the Czech Republic three years ago.

Lebanon has seen rare cases of kidnapping over the past years. Some cases have involved requests for ransom in the past.

In 2011, seven Estonians were abducted in the Bekaa Valley and were set free four months later after a ransom was purportedly paid.
