A two-day international meeting on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been held in Russia’s capital Moscow. The event is one of international events organized by the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People. Marina Kortunova has the details from Moscow.

To mobilize international assistance to Gaza and to maximize the use of all legal mechanisms available to the State of Palestine; those are among the goals pursued at a very timely moment in an international meeting in the Russian capital.
These days Moscow is providing a platform for international players to encourage talks between Israelis and the Palestinians.

Visiting Arab League Secretary General, Nabil El-Araby says, the Moscow conference is important to raise the question again and take it to the Security Council where the Resolution on Palestine should be implemented within a limited period of time. The top Arab diplomat condemned Israel for what he called its colonial and racist agenda.

Russia is one of 135 out of the 193 UN member states that have formally recognized the State of Palestine. Although the most recent 2014 round of talks between Israel and Palestine failed to bring a resolution, Russia’s balanced position and leverage in the region could allow dialog between Palestine and Israel to some extent. The Palestinian Foreign Minister emphasized the collective responsibility for the Palestinian issue and Russia’s role as a mediator in particular.

Participants hope that the two-day discussions in Moscow provide opportunities to explore how to prepare the grounds for a successful political process, what international efforts could facilitate the two- State solution and what the next steps at the UN could be.
