US teachers ‘need to be paid more money’

“Teachers need to be paid more money,” Posel said.

American teachers should be paid more money due to their job’s difficulties and their hardships, according to a US political analyst.

“Teachers need to be paid more money,” Chief Editor of OccupyCorporatism Susanne Posel told Press TV on Wednesday.

“Teachers create the atmosphere for higher education. They make it interesting,” she added.

She made the comments after thousands of US teachers went on strike in Seattle, Washington to demand higher wages, smaller classes and more funding for public schools.

About 2,500 Seattle teachers took part in the strike on Tuesday, marking the largest one-day strike in a series of protests by educators in Washington state during the past week.

“The majority of teachers are extremely caring, extremely educated and want to do their job and do their job well,” Posel said.

Teachers are unhappy about a proposal to increase salaries by 3 percent over two years, while the state has not raised teacher healthcare funding in five years, according to the Washington Education Association teachers union.

“It’s coming from the right-wing extremist groups here in this country,” Posel said.

“Unfortunately, after a long period of time, when we treat someone what they aren’t what they are, they start to behave like what they aren’t and stop behaving what they are,” she concluded.
