Barzani remarks on Kurdish statehood have sparked mixed reactions inside Iraq

The presidents of Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region’s remarks on Kurdish statehood have sparked mixed reactions inside Iraq. While some Kurdish lawmakers greet the proposal as a chance for independence, officials in Baghdad warn the move can seriously jeopardize Iraq's sovereignty and expand insecurity in the region.
