India bus fire leaves 7 dead, 16 burned
A huge fire on a public bus in southeast India has left seven passengers dead and sixteen others burnt, five of them in critical condition.
The bus was carrying 42 people when the accident took place 150 kilometers (93 miles) southeast of Uttar Pradesh's state capital city of Lucknow.
The blaze started after a gas cylinder carried by one of passengers on the bus caught fire and spread on to the many more cylinders, a local official reported.
Following the bus fire incident, villagers in the area stone-attacked firefighters who were reportedly late to arrive at the scene.
The villagers complained that it took the fire engine and crew two hours to arrive at the scene of the disaster.
One the firefighters pelted by the villagers is in serious condition in hospital.
The northern state of Uttar Pradesh is the most populous Indian state with a population of 204.2 million (2012).
