Argentina declassifies secret files of the AMIA case

Argentine President Cristina Kirchner issued an executive order urging the new Intelligence Agency to declassify all the secret files related to the AMIA case. The Presidential decree is effective March 16 and comprises evidences, documents and reports.

The bombing of the Jewish Community Center took the lives of 85 people in 1994 and has been a breeding ground for several conspiracy theories raised by local Zionist organizations which, despite repeatedly pinned the blame on Iran, never submitted any proof to back their allegations nor were able to produce any evidence.

The now declassified files are being kept in thousands of dusty binders and folders located in a storage facility of the courthouse. Officials hinted that President Kirchner could also make public more classified information of other government agencies.

Many senior intelligence analysts considered that the full declassification of the AMIA case files will shed light on the true role and influence of Israel in the investigation. Some of them highlighted that the accusations over an alleged responsibility of Iran in the bombing were raised right after an Israeli official was allowed to join the special task-force team in charge of the probe.

In a ceremony attended by prosecutors and members of the Judiciary, the Secretary of National Intelligence Oscar Parrilli made available the first batch of documents. Due to the very large number of files it may take several weeks until the declassification process is completed.
