The body of former Saudi Arabian monarch, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, has been laid to rest. He died in the early hours of Friday at the age of 90.

Abdullah's body was buried at al-Od public cemetery in the capital Riyadh. Leaders and dignitaries from different countries attended the ceremony. Citizens were invited to pledge allegiance to the new King Salman at the royal palace. Before the funeral, King Salman clarified the chain of succession by naming Prince Mohammed bin Nayef as the country's interior minister and the deputy crown prince. He also appointed his own son, Mohammad bin Salman, to succeed him as defense minister and also to the powerful position of head of the king's royal court, replacing Abdullah's long-time chief.
