Arba'een mourning

The city of Karbala in Iraq is hosting millions of pilgrims from across the world who are commemorating Arba'een. People from all walks of life have converged on the holy Muslim city to join the event, which marks the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein, the third Shia Imam and the grandson of Prophet Muhammad. Millions of Muslim pilgrims, including Iranians, have marched for days to join the mourning ceremonies. Muslims believe it is significant to keep alive the movement of Karbala, which is a movement against terrorism, fascism, and despotism. Imam Hussein and his 72 companions were martyred in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD while fighting courageously for justice against the much larger army of then tyrant ruler, Yazid.

Anti-Israel operation

There has been another anti-Israel operation in the occupied Palestinian territories. According to Israeli media, three settlers have been injured in a stabbing attack by a 17-year-old Palestinian in the occupied al-Quds, with one of them being in critical condition. The identity of the attacker remains unknown, but according to the reports, Israeli forces first shot at him and later detained him. Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has hailed the operation, saying the attack is a natural response to the Israeli crimes.

UK schools safety row

The British government is under fire for ignoring safety standards at schools. Opposition Labour leader Keir Starmer has taken a swipe at the British premier for cutting the budget to rebuild schools when he was finance minister. The prime minister responded by saying the government would be providing extra funding to tackle the school safety crisis. Sunak accused the opposition of using the crisis to achieve their political advantages. The government has issued a list of 147 schools in England that have lightweight concrete, known as RAAC. It has said that all schools with the crumbling material must close or partially close without safety measures in place.
