Iran needs guarantees

Iran is calling for legal and political guarantees from the European signatories of the nuclear deal as they strive to come up with a package of cooperation with Tehran. Concluding an emergency Joint Commission session following the US withdrawal from the deal, the remaining signatories sent a unified message endorsing the agreement. Press TV’s Homa Lezgee reports from Vienna.

Argentinians anger

Thousands of Argentines have rallied in the capital Buenos Aires to protest the government's bid to secure a credit line from the International Monetary Fund. Opposition parties, unions, human rights organizations and artists took part in the march. The protest is the latest of several, organized since the government said on May 8 that it had started financing negotiations with the IMF after weeks of market volatility. This surprised investors and stoked Argentines' fears of a repeat of the nation's devastating 2001-2002 economic collapse. Many Argentinians blame IMF-imposed austerity measures for the crisis.

Israeli crimes

Israeli forces have clashed with Palestinians protesting along the so-called buffer zone in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli soldiers used tear gas and live rounds to disperse the protesters. According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, 109 people were injured during clashes on Friday. Tensions have exacerbated in the occupied territories since Palestinians started the Great March of Return campaign on March 30. The deadliest clashes occurred following the transfer of the US embassy to Jerusalem al-Quds on May 14. More than 60 Palestinians were killed on that day.

Saudi war on Yemen

At least three civilians have been killed in fresh Saudi airstrikes on residential areas in Yemen. One of the airstrikes hit the country’s Amran province, leaving two women dead and another civilian injured. Authorities say they expect the casualties to rise. Earlier, Saudi fighter jets hit a town in Hudaydah province, leaving one civilian dead. The attacks are the latest in over three years of Saudi bombing of Yemen. The aggression has left over 14,000 people dead, many of them women and children.

Trump U-turn

The US President says a summit with the North Korean leader could still go ahead, a day after Donald Trump called off the planned meeting. Trump wrote on his twitter page that there were productive talks between Washington and Pyongyang about reinstating the summit. If the two sides reach an agreement, the meeting will be held in Singapore on June 12. South Korea welcomed Trump's comments about holding the meeting with Kim Jung-un. On Thursday, Trump cancelled the summit, citing what he called North Korea’s open hostility. But North Korea later said it was willing to talk at any time in any form.

Guatemala US call

Guatemalan officials have called on the US government to investigate the recent shooting death of a young migrant near the southern US border. The fatal incident happened in the US state of Texas on Wednesday. The US border patrol said in a statement that 19-year-old Claudia Gomez was among a group of suspected illegal aliens armed with blunt objects. It later changed the account, claiming the group rushed the officer after ignoring orders to get on the ground. The young woman’s family says she was trying to reach the US in search of work and education opportunities. The US President has been calling for tough immigration laws and a wall to be built along the country’s southern borders.
