The Iran’s national men’s footvolley team has chalked up its first victory at the preliminary round of the Thailand World Footvolley Championships 2018, breezing past the South Korean squad.

On Tuesday, the Iranian duo of Othman Sabili and Vahid Imeri defeated their East Asian opponents in two straight sets (18-5 and 18-8) in the Thai capital city of Bangkok.

The Iran’s national men’s footvolley team is scheduled to play against Nepal and India on Wednesday.

The Thailand World Footvolley Championships 2018 started on April 24 and will conclude on April 27, 2018.

Footvolley was created by Octavio de Moraes on Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach, Brazil, in 1965. It is a sport that combines aspects of beach volleyball and association football.

Footvolley is essentially beach volleyball, except for the fact that players are not allowed to use their hands, and a football replaces the volleyball.

A number of professional football players, including Romário, Edmundo, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho Gaúcho, Júnior, and Edinho, have taken up footvolley in both promotional events and celebrity matches in recent years.
