Iran’s national men’s footvolley team

Iran’s national men’s footvolley team has chalked up its first victory at the preliminary round of the Rio 2016 Footvolley World Tournament in Brazil, moving past the Colombian outfit.

On Friday, Iran’s squad, comprised of Jamil Kor and Abouzar Ghorbani, claimed both sets by a wide point difference, and drubbed the South Americans 3-0.

The Persians had sustained a bitter 6-8 defeat at the hands of strong Brazil B footvolley team in their opening match the previous day.

Iran’s national men’s footvolley team is scheduled to play against Austria on Saturday. It will progress to the next round should it emerge triumphant at the end of today’s fixture.

The Rio 2016 Footvolley World Tournament started in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on August 22 and will conclude on August 29, 2016.

Iran has been drawn alongside Austria, Brazil B and Colombia in Group E of the sports event.

Australia, Malaysia, Spain and the United States form Group A, while England, Israel, Italy and Uruguay form Group B.

Canada, France, India and Switzerland are put in Group C. Group D consists of Brazil A, the Netherland, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates.

Bolivia, Germany, Paraguay and Portugal shape Group F.

Footvolley was created by Octavio de Moraes on Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach, Brazil, in 1965. It is a sport that combines aspects of beach volleyball and association football.

Footvolley is essentially beach volleyball, except for the fact that players are not allowed to use their hands, and a football replaces the volleyball.

A number of professional football players, including Romário, Edmundo, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho Gaúcho, Júnior, and Edinho, have taken up footvolley in both promotional events and celebrity matches in recent years.
