Here is a brief look at Press TV newsroom's headlines from 18:00 GMT, March 25, 2018 to 08:00 GMT, March 26, 2018.

Yemen retaliatory strike

Yemen’s Ansarullah fighters and allied army units have carried out more retaliatory missile attacks against Saudi Arabia, targeting several positions in the kingdom. Yemeni forces say they targeted King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh as well as Abha, Najran and Jizan Regional Airports with ballistic missiles. Saudi Arabia’s military says it has intercepted a missile over the northeastern part of the capital Riyadh. The missile attacks come on the third anniversary of Saudi Arabia’s onslaught against its southern neighbor which has claimed the lives of over 14,000 Yemenis, mostly civilians.

Egypt presidential vote

Egyptians are preparing to cast their ballots in the presidential election, which is expected to be won by incumbent Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in the absence of any serious challenger. Military personnel have been deployed across the country while some have volunteered to help voters find their polling stations. The government has been calling on eligible voters to participate in the polls which will open on Monday for three days. A high turnout could affirm Sisi’s legitimacy, after all his credible opponents dropped out in January. A little-known politician, Moussa Mustafa Moussa is another candidate in the race but he is said to be a pro-Sisi himself. Opposition figures have called for a boycott of the election, citing intimidation by the authorities.

Russia mall blaze

Dozens of people have been killed after a major fire engulfed a shopping mall in the Russian city of Kemerovo. Russian media have put the death toll at 37, saying women and children are among the victims. Authorities are investigating the cause of the deadly fire. Kemerovo, a coal-mining center in Siberia, lies some 36-hundred kilometers east of the capital Moscow.

Eastern Ghouta evacuation

One of the last anti-Syria militant groups, operating in eastern Ghouta, says it won’t withdraw from its strongholds in the battered Damascus suburb. A Jaish al-Islam spokesman has accused the Syrian government of trying to change the demographic balance of Eastern Ghouta by forcing out locals and replacing them with its allies. Hamza Birqdar says Jaish al-Islam is asking for guarantees that what remains of the local population will not be forced out. All other militants groups have left the flashpoint region under deals negotiated with the Syrian government and its ally Russia. Syrian government forces have liberated most parts of eastern Ghouta. Only the town of Douma, the most populous part of eastern Ghouta, remains under the control of militants.

Trump China tariffs

US Treasury Secretary, Steve Mnuchin has defended President Donald Trump’s measure to impose steep tariffs on Chinese imports, saying the move will improve the economy in the long-run. Speaking in a program on Fox News, Mnuchin said Trump will go ahead with imposing the 60-billion-dollar tariffs on imports from China unless the two sides come to an agreement. The treasury secretary added that tariffs would target sectors in which Beijing had stolen American technology. Earlier on Friday, China's metals industry issued an explicit threat, urging the government to retaliate by targeting US coal. Beijing has already threatened tariffs on 3 billion dollars worth of US goods in retaliation for Trump’s move.

Anti-Saudi demonstration

A sea of demonstrators has poured into the streets of the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, to mark the third anniversary of Saudi Arabia’s war on the impoverished nation. The protesters chanted slogans against the Saudi aggression. They also emphasized their will to resist and safeguard the country’s dignity in the face of the Kingdom’s continued aerial bombardments. The Saudi monarchy launched its military campaign against Yemen in 2015. The onslaught has so far killed over 14,300 people. In addition to civilian casualties, the conflict has also triggered a set of deadly humanitarian crises, including cholera and diphtheria epidemics. Millions of malnourished Yemeni children are teetering between life and death. Yemen’s infrastructure has also been reduced to rubble.

Rohingya humanitarian crisis

Thousands of Rohingya refugees in India are facing a food and health crisis amid deportation threats. As Press TV’s Munawar Zaman reports, the dire situation of Rohingya, who fled Myanmar due to a state-sanctioned persecution campaign, is compounded by the fact that India is not a signatory to international refugee conventions.
