Unbreakable resistance in Iran

The Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution says the enemy has used every possible means against the country, but has failed to defeat the nation. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said the enemy has also been attempting to sow discord among Shias and Sunnis in Iran. But, he said, Shias and Sunnis are living alongside each other and are cooperating in the face of the most difficult situations. The leader stressed that this unity must be displayed to the world.

Zuma awaits fate

South Africa’s ruling party has reportedly decided to remove embattled President, Jacob Zuma, from power following a long session of closed-door talks that ended early Tuesday. The executive committee of the African National Congress met for thirteen hours to make a decision on Zuma's fate. It will hold a media briefing later in the day to officially reveal the results. Earlier, media reported that Zuma was given 48 hours to submit his resignation. The ANC’s executive committee can essentially force the president to step down, but he’s under no constitutional obligation to obey. If Zuma does not abide by the committee, a parliamentary vote of no-confidence is likely within days. Jacob Zuma’s tenure started in 2009 and officially runs until mid-2019. But it’s been marred by graft scandals all the way through. Zuma has refused to quit power despite calls from his party and an angry public.

US undermining Syria integrity

The Russian Foreign Minister says the US has acted unilaterally in Syria in a dangerous way. Sergey Lavrov says such unilateral acts by Washington are meant to take control over Syria’s eastern regions. He added that such moves imply that the US is seeking to create a quasi-state on Syrian territory. The Russian foreign minister hinted that the US aims to undermine Syria’s integrity and sponsor the creation of independent power structures. Less than a week ago, the US attacked Dayr al-Zawr, killing some one-hundred pro-government fighters.

Saudi war on Yemen

Saudi jets have launched fresh airstrikes on Yemen, leaving more death and destruction. The latest attack targeted a market in Hajjah province. At least three people have been killed and dozens of others wounded in the bombing. Authorities say the death toll is likely to rise. Saudi Arabia began launching airstrikes on Yemen in March 2015. Nearly 14,000 people, mostly civilians have lost their lives since then.
